The subject of the oneness of God is considered one of the most important and sacred truths that Muslims and Christians alike believe in. God is one, He has no partner – and this is a fact that the Christian faith does not dispute either. But when some hear about the “Trinity,” it may seem to contradict this oneness. How do we understand that?
In this article, we try to approach the idea in simple language, close to the mind, without philosophical complexity.
First: God is one – this is the beginning
The Bible clearly affirms the oneness of God. In the Torah we read:
“Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God is one Lord.”(Deuteronomy 6:4)
This declaration is very similar to what Muslims believe: that God is one in essence, indivisible and pluralistic.
Therefore, the Christian faith does not begin from diversity, but fromThe complete oneness of God.
Second: A deeper revelation about God
Over time, God began to reveal Himself in a deeper way through history, especially in the life of Jesus Christ.
In the Gospel we read that Jesus commanded his disciples, saying:
“Go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.”(Matthew 28:19)
Note here something important:
He did not say “names,” but he said“on behalf of”(singular), then he mentioned the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
This gives us a distinctive picture:
- GodOne in his name and essence
- But He reveals Himself in three persons
Third: What does “the Trinity” mean?
The Trinity does not mean three gods—that is a misconception.
Rather, it means that:
- GodOne in essence
- existingIn three hypostases: The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit
The idea can be simplified like this:
We don’t have it3 gods = 1 (this is wrong)
But we have1 God = Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
Fourth: Is this a new concept?
The early Christians faced the same question, and tried to express it in simple language:
- God is beyond our complete understanding
- But we know him as he declared himself
- None of the early believers said there were three gods
- Rather, they adhered to the oneness of God, while acknowledging what He revealed about Himself
Fifth: Why is this important?
Because understanding God’s nature helps us understand His love more deeply.
In the Christian faith:
- God the Father loves
- God the Son displays this love in action
- The Holy Spirit works in the human heart
This is not a division of God, but a revelation ofThe richness of relationship and love within God.
Sixth: An invitation to contemplate
The idea of the Trinity may seem difficult at first, and this is normal. Even throughout history, believers have acknowledged that God is too great to be completely encompassed.
But the most important question is not only:How do we understand God?
But also:Are we ready to know Him as He revealed Himself?
a summary
- God is one — and this is a basic point of agreement
- The Bible declares that this one God identified himself as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
- The Trinity does not cancel oneness, but rather explains it in a deeper way
- The goal is not complexity, but to know God as He is
In the end, this question remains open to every human being:
Are we only looking for an understanding of God, or a true relationship with Him?
